Theoretical, numerical, and observational studies of the Earth's magnetosphere and geomagnetic storm dynamics.

Development of numerical models, theoretical plasma physics studies, data analysis and interpretation, computer simulation and visualization.

LDRD - Directed Research (DR) Program:

  • Principal Investigator on "Space Hazards Induced near Earth by Large Dynamic Storms" (SHIELDS)
  • Co-Investigator on "Impacts of Extreme Space Weather Events on Power Grid Infrastructure: Physics-Based Modelling of Geomagnetically-Induced Currents (GICs) During Carrington-Class Geomagnetic Storms"

Co-Investigator on two Instrument Teams on NASA’s Van Allen Probes (launched 2012 to study plasma structures and dynamic processes in the Earth's radiation belts):

  • Electric and Magnetic Field Instrument Suite and Integrated Science (EMFISIS)
  • Energetic Particle, Composition, and Thermal Plasma (ECT)
