Conferences & Workshops

The Institute for Materials Science supports the implementation of the Laboratory's materials strategy and promotes a strong sense of community among the Laboratory's materials researchers.

Materials Science and Data Technology Nexus: IMS mini-symposium

September 21, 2016 — Recent years have witnessed exponential growth in the ability to generate large multidimensional data sets. However, data generation has significantly outpaced the ability to effectively manage, share, analyze, and meaningfully access such data. In this one-day symposium, we will work towards developing a common framework and language that seamlessly bridges the gap between three critical communities.

Advanced Qualification of Additive Manufacturing Materials Workshop

July 20 - 21, 2015 — The goal of this workshop was to define opportunities and research gaps within additive manufacturing (AM) and to engage the broader scientific/engineering community to discuss future research directions. Talks over the course of the 1.5-day workshop covered mixtures of metals, non-metals, experimental, and modeling.

Quantum and Dirac Materials for Energy Applications

March 8 - 11, 2015 — This workshop served to discuss current status and future prospects for quantum materials and Dirac materials for energy and information technology applications using recent advances in synthesis, characterization and modeling. Particular attention was paid to the nonequilibrium and pumped probes of materials and Dirac materials.
