WELCOME, LAURA LOY!
Congratulations to Los Alamos native Laura Loy, who was recently named executive director for the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation. Loy started in her new position on April 3, taking over from longtime director Joanna Gillespie.
“In my new position, I get to go home every day knowing I did a good thing to help our students, teachers, and community,” Loy told the Los Alamos Daily Post. “As an alumnus myself, I would love to see more alumnus in the future give back to the schools in thanks for the great education we all got.”
Loy has a background in business, marketing, and non-profit management. Most recently, she taught business classes and started the Community Internship Collaboration program at UNM-Los Alamos.
PERSONAL MESSAGE
Sometimes as adults, we can be too eager to give young people the benefit of our hard-won experience. But as children return to school this month, we should make sure we're not only teaching them facts but also encouraging their problem-solving skills and their curiosity.
