Hochanadel named fellow by International Institute of Welding

Program manager, engineer honored for dedication to his field

Patrick Hochanadel, of the Sigma Manufacturing Science division at Los Alamos, has been elected a fellow of the International Institute of Welding. He was recognized at the society’s annual assembly in Genoa, Italy, for his distinguished contributions to welding science and technology and his commitment to advancing the field. 

Of note: 

  • Hochanadel is an R&D engineer and the Lab’s Strategic Materials Production Modernization program manager. His broad experience at the Lab includes performing production work for the Pit Manufacturing Project, serving as a Design Agency representative for welding at the Y-12 National Security Complex, and serving as a team leader, deputy group leader and acting group leader.
  • Hochanadel is chair of the International Institute of Welding’s Power Beam Processes commission and vice chair of the American Council. He is the recipient of the society’s 2018 R.D. Thomas Memorial Award and is an associate editor for the society’s Welding in the World journal.
  • Also an American Welding Society fellow, Hochanadel received his doctorate in metallurgical and materials engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
