Society of Petroleum Engineers honors Los Alamos scientist for high-volume peer reviews

Meng is associate editor of 2 journals

The scientific integrity of journals depends on dedicated reviewers and editors like Meng Meng. Los Alamos National Laboratory

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) recently gave Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist Meng Meng special recognition for reviewing 100 or more scientific papers since 2016. This year’s SPE A Peer Apart award honored 11 people who have reached that milestone, providing countless volunteer hours for peer review — a critical part of scientific journal publishing. 

Meng also received an Outstanding Associate Editor award. For SPE Journal and Geoenergy Science and Engineering (previously the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering), he helps evaluate whether the information in papers is well supported and clearly written, contributing to scientific integrity. In the past, the society gave Meng an Outstanding Technical Editor award.

About Meng’s expertise:

  • Meng holds a doctorate in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa and works in the Laboratory’s Analytical Earth Science group.
  • At Los Alamos, his research is focused on the performance of wellbore materials and geologic formations under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, with applications to geothermal energy, oil and gas production and more.
