Los Alamos researchers and AI experts are working side by side to solve real scientific problems at the Artificial Intelligence Technology Laboratory, a new space where ideas can percolate into practical tools for widespread use.

Why this matters: The acceleration hub supports Los Alamos National Laboratory’s priorities around AI reasoning. It will serve as a central space to foster innovation and develop AI solutions that directly impact national security missions.

hackathon
The ArtIMis project team participated in a daylong hackathon at the Artificial Intelligence Technology Laboratory.

How it works: The Artificial Intelligence Tech Lab brings together multidisciplinary teams of data scientists, machine learning researchers and domain experts to tackle complex problems using the latest AI methods. As the home of the AI for Mission (or ArtIMis) project, the space provides a focal point for developing, testing and deploying AI capabilities.

Initial activities include:
  • Developing AI-enabled modeling and reasoning tools that enhance simulation, prediction and decision support across national security mission areas.
  • Building domain-specific AI systems, including scalable machine learning workflows, advanced reasoning models and integrated AI high-performance computing pipelines.
  • Providing training and workforce development to equip staff with the skills needed to apply AI tools effectively in national security mission environments.
