Technical assistance available through program that has provided expertise to over 3,000 New Mexico businesses
April 29, 2025

Small businesses from across the state are invited to attend and meet scientists from Los Alamos National Laboratory who research everything from artificial intelligence to geothermal energy. The Lab’s New Mexico Small Business Assistance (NMSBA) program will host a matchmaking and networking event May 20 in Santa Fe. This event is industry agnostic — it’s not just for tech companies.
“We are excited to invite our local community to this event to share the exciting resources we have available,” said Julia Wise, NMSBA program manager. “An important part of our mission at the Lab is to give back to our community, and these cutting-edge solutions are increasing economic opportunities across the state.”

At the event, businesses will speak with Los Alamos representatives to learn how the Laboratory’s science and capabilities can help the business grow, solve challenges, and foster collaboration, all for free. Businesses that apply for the NMSBA programs could be eligible for up to $120,000 of technical assistance per calendar year. Since its creation in 2000 by Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories, the NMSBA program has assisted over 3,000 business, provided more than $80 million in technical advising, and supported the creation of more than 13,000 jobs in the state.
This event will allow local entrepreneurs and businesses to learn about the programs, brainstorm with the scientists in real time, and submit applications with the help of NMSBA staff.
The purpose of this event is to help small businesses in the community access the wealth of skills at the Lab, and to help foster long-term relationships between local businesses and Los Alamos. The scientists participating in this event will be from the Earth and Environmental Sciences division at the Lab, and will be able to offer assistance for a variety of AI, geoscience, and modeling projects.
