New Mexico students: Apply now for a free summer physics camp organized by Los Alamos National Lab
Free summer physics camp applications due April 1
March 3, 2025

Do you know middle and high school students who are interested in STEM? Encourage them to apply for the 2025 Summer Physics Camp organized by Los Alamos National Laboratory and sponsored by the New Mexico Consortium.
This free, two-week program will take place at the New Mexico School for the Arts in Santa Fe on June 2-13.
The deadline to apply is April 1.
This year: Energy and energy security
During the ninth annual camp, students will explore topics related to energy and energy security. Campers will also boost their understanding of how STEM improves the world around us through hands-on activities, demonstrations, tours, talks, and a multiday engineering project.
The main goal of the camp is to help boost participants' understanding of and excitement toward STEM, STEM careers and the mission of the national laboratories.
Presenters include scientists, engineers, and other professionals from Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories as well as from industry.
Campers receive stipends
Camp sessions also cover professional development skills, including how to write a resume and perform well in interviews. Not only is the camp free, but campers also receive a paid stipend upon completion. A limited number of free residential spots are available to selected students living more than 60 miles from Santa Fe and unable to commute to the camp each day. The camp includes free lunch and snacks for attendees, and free breakfast and dinner for residential students.
How to apply
Students looking to attend the camp must:
- Be a student living in New Mexico or New Mexico tribal communities.
- Have completed algebra I or high-level math course.
- Be able to commit to two-week full participation (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m, Monday-Friday).
Students should give themselves time to complete an online application form, as well as secure a letter of recommendation and school transcripts for the application. Acceptance is not based on GPA, but on how the camp can positively impact the student’s future.
