Spend Your Summer Advancing Research with LANL Michigan SPARC

The SPARC Student Summer Program is an opportunity for LANL scientists to spend an extended visit at the University of Michigan, co-mentoring a team of students with UM faculty. This is your chance to immerse yourself in the research environment of a top university, build new collaborations, explore innovative ideas, and work with exceptional students and mentors, all hosted at the LANL Michigan SPARC duty station in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Program information for students

Spend your summer working on a hands-on research project with mentors from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and the University of Michigan.

Dates: Tentatively June 1–August 6

Location: University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus

Program: A paid, 10-week research fellowship pairing each student with a LANL scientist and UM faculty member for direct mentorship on a specific project

Project areas:

AI, neuromorphic computing, and digital twins
Advanced physics simulation and modeling
Radiation effects, nuclear detection, and space security
Materials discovery, catalysis, and rare-earth recovery
Environmental chemical modeling
Biosecurity and multiomics

Additional opportunities: Special lectures, seminars, tours, and access to UM experimental facilities
