Srinivas Iyer

Introduction
Srinivas Iyer leads Chemical, Earth & Life Sciences (ALDCELS), advancing capabilities in chemistry, bioscience, and earth and environmental sciences to support the Laboratory’s national security mission, energy independence, as well as discovery science. CELS synergizes Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration portfolios to deliver mission impact.
Background
Before the ALDCELS role, Iyer led the Laboratory’s Office of Science Programs, overseeing Laboratory research funded by Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC) programs with a science portfolio spanning the Laboratory’s technical breadth. Since joining Los Alamos in 1999 as a postdoctoral fellow, he has contributed to low-dose radiation effects and analytical biochemistry using mass spectrometry and separation science supporting Department of Defense projects, holding roles of increasing responsibility, including Bioscience Division Leader and DOE-SC Biological Systems Science program manager at the Laboratory. As ALDCELS, he integrates multidisciplinary teams to accelerate innovation and develop applications in a broad set of national interest topics, while strengthening partnerships with universities and industry.
Education
- PhD, Biochemistry & Biophysics — University of Houston
- Postdoctoral training — University of New Mexico School of Medicine and LANL
Area Managed
ALDCELS houses Chemistry, Bioscience, and Earth & Environmental Sciences divisions with twelve capability-focused groups and the Applied Energy Program Office. The directorate supports missions from basic science to operations, advancing biosecurity, energy efficiency, and discovery programs integral to the Lab Agenda.
