Introduction

Steven Coleman leads Environment, Safety, Health & Quality (ALDESHQ), providing mission-enabling services that protect people, resources, and the environment. He brings decades of environmental safety and health leadership in nuclear-capable facilities and laboratory environments, emphasizing compliance, readiness, mission enablement, and continuous improvement.

Background

Coleman has 41 years of experience in environmental safety and health, operations, and project engineering at nuclear-capable facilities, including three decades at Brookhaven National Laboratory, where he led environmental safety and health and radiological control organizations. At Los Alamos, he directs ALDESHQ divisions, program, and integration offices that deliver institutional programs, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, radiological protection, environmental compliance, and quality assurance. He works closely with Operations and Weapons associate Laboratory directorates to align safety standards with mission tempo and capital projects, maintaining a strong safety culture and regulatory performance. Coleman engages with state and federal regulators on permits and authorization bases and leads strategic initiatives in waste minimization and environmental stewardship.
