Friday, November 20, 1998
6:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Technical Tour of the WIPP

A technical tour of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) has been scheduled for Friday, November 20, 1998. The WIPP, located near Carlsbad, New Mexico, is a Department of Energy facility designed for permanent disposal of transuranic (TRU) waste in an ancient salt formation 650 meters underground.

Carlsbad is approximately 270 miles southeast of Albuquerque. On the day of the tour, Ross Aviation will provide a round-trip flight between Albuquerque and Carlsbad. The flight will leave Albuquerque around 6:30 a.m. and return at approximately 6 p.m. Local transportation in Carlsbad will be provided. Participants will visit both surface and underground facilities of the WIPP site. In addition, we will visit the Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring & Research Center and the Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

You don't want to miss this unique opportunity for a wonderful technical tour! Registration fee is $75 (comparing to the regular round-trip airfare of $150), some costs are paid for by the conference and Carlsbad organizations. Number of participants is limited to 80.

Tour registration ends on November 6, 1998. To avoid disappointment, please sign up early. To sign up, please use the conference registration form.
