Bilingual Montessori School of Los Alamos now fully open with slots available

Final phase of child care center’s construction and licensing completed

2024-12-20

The Triad National Security-supported child care center in Los Alamos is now fully open, and there are openings for children ages 1-5.

The center opened in a phased process as construction and licensing was completed on different buildings in the complex. It can now serve 150 children, and while priority is given to Lab employees, applications are open to everyone.

After extensive remodeling of the buildings, all construction at Bilingual Montessori School’s Los Alamos campus at 3500 Trinity Drive has been completed, and the facility is fully staffed.

One of the Triad parent entities, the University of California, provided $2 million for the remodeling and furnishings at the center. Additionally, Triad's board of directors has pledged ongoing financial support for its operations.

This child care center is solely managed by Bilingual Montessori School, a local small business. Triad’s support is solely funded by its corporate resources and neither Los Alamos National Laboratory nor Department of Energy funds are being used for this initiative.

“We recently opened the Toddler 1 class and the early-childhood room (for potty-trained children ages 3 to 5),” said Odalys Gonzalez, director of BMS. “Infants, 1- and 2- year-olds also have classes that are open and fully staffed.”

The center charges competitive market rates. Interested employees can call BMS at (505) 551-8051 or email bmslam.kids@gmail.com.

BMS has also recently started an after-school program for school-age children in kindergarten through second grade. It runs daily from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. BMS does not provide transportation to or from the child care center.

“If you are interested or curious about our new school, please contact us for a tour,” Gonzalez said.
