Fire Protection at Los Alamos National Laboratory
Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Fire Protection Office provides integrated fire protection, engineering, life safety, emergency response, and facility safety services to support mission-ready operations. Responsibilities include fire protection system design reviews, programming and configuration, acceptance testing, impairment management, permitting, field engineering, facility inspections, code compliance, and deficiency management.
Fire protection engineers, technologists, and specialists provide operations, project, and program support while serving as subject matter experts and representatives of the authority having jurisdiction. The Fire Protection Office also facilitates emergency response by the Los Alamos Fire Department and supports Laboratory facility operations directorates in resolving fire protection issues and implementing applicable requirements.
Collectively, these capabilities protect personnel and assets, maintain operational continuity, and ensure Laboratory activities remain aligned with DOE, the National Fire Protection Association, the International Building Code, and LANL fire protection requirements.
