The LANL Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division addresses national security challenges by executing mission-driven, large-scale, integrated experiments, emphasizing sub-critical experiments, hydrodynamic tests, focused experiments, and tests of engineered systems. J Division operates the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) facility and operates or utilizes other LANL firing sites and facilities. The Division collaborates to execute sub-critical and other integrated experiments at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and NNSA, DOE, and at our partner organizations’ facilities as needed.

- Dynamic Structure R&D
- Radiography
- Diagnostics
J-2: Dynamic Structure Design, Engineering, and Vessel Operations
The Dynamic Structure Design, Engineering, and Vessel Operations group (J-2) g develops and procures engineering standards, design, and analysis for impulsively loaded vessels and structures in support of the HSEES (Hydrodynamic and Subcritical Experiment Execution Support) Program. J-2 configures vessels and operates vessel-confined hydrodynamic shots performed at LANL. The group maintains the inventory of pressure vessels and structures necessary for J-Division in support of stockpile stewardship and various R&D programs.
J-4: DARHT Experiments and Radiographic Science group
The DARHT Experiments and Radiographic Science group (J-4) conducts experimental design, radiographic optical train design, and diagnostics design for the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) facility and Area I hydrotest experiments.
J-6: Engineering, Operations, and Physics
The Engineering, Operations, and Physics group (J-6) within the Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division operates and develops the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) capabilities to ensure readiness and function of this key component of our stockpile stewardship nuclear deterrent mission.
J-NV: J Division Nevada Operations
The J Division Nevada Operations group (J-NV) plans, fields, and executes dynamic, high- explosive experiments at Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This includes sub-critical experiments (SCEs) involving special nuclear material, as well as small- and large-scale, non-nuclear experiments and sanitization operations. J-NV generates, analyzes, and disseminates unique, high-quality data for NNSA’s Weapons and Global Security programs, as well as external government agencies.
