Rich Fiorella is a staff scientist in the Climate, Ecosystems, and Environmental Science Group (EES-14). He works on several projects developing and applying the land and atmosphere model components of the DOE Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) to understanding impacts on and risks to environmental security. His research interests center around using water and carbon isotope ratios to understand how water and carbon move through the environment, how these processes are represented in Earth system models.

He received a DOE Office of Science Early Career Research Award in 2023. Prior to coming to LANL in 2021, he was a postdoc and research faculty at the University of Utah and earned his PhD from the University of Michigan Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in 2016.
