Phil Jones has been developing ocean and climate models on high-performance computing architectures for over thirty years at LANL. He is currently a co-lead of the ocean model development group for the DOE’s Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) where he is leading the development of the computational infrastructure and performance of the new Ocean Model for E3SM Global Applications (OMEGA). Prior to that, he was computational performance group lead for E3SM and a developer of the previous Parallel Ocean Program (POP) and MPAS-Ocean models. He has served in leadership roles as the project lead for the Climate, Ocean and Sea-ice Modeling (COSIM) effort at LANL and as deputy group leader for the Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics group in the Theoretical Division (T-3). He holds a Ph.D. in Astrophysical, Planetary and Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Colorado and a BS in Physics and Math from Iowa State University. |
