Computer frustrations from the 1950s

In honor of April Fools' Day
April 1, 2016
Image of someone looking to break glass.

Apparently, things haven't gotten any easier over time.

In the historic files of the MANIAC computer was this lighthearted photo depicting frustrations that arose with using the then-new computer technology.

In case you miss the nuances of the image, the box before the befuddled individual says “Break Glass in Emergency.” Behind the glass is an abacus and the person is reaching for the stone on top of the case to access it in his “emergency.”

The markings on the photo indicate it likely was taken back in 1956.
