Dedication of the Materials Science Laboratory at Los Alamos, July 8, 1994 The
Materials Science Laboratory (MSL) was officially dedicated in a ceremony
on July 8, 1994. The featured speaker was United States Senator Jeff Bingaman,
who was joined at the podium by Laboratory Director Sigfried S. Hecker,
Roger Fisher (Deputy Assistant Secretary of Research and Development for
the Department of Energy Defense Programs), Steven R. J. Brueck (Director
of the Center for High Technology Materials at the University of New Mexico),
Jeff Bullington (Executive Director of Advanced Materials Manufacturing
Processes for Economic Competitiveness), Don M. Parkin (Center Leader
of the Los Alamos Center for Materials Science) and Mahlon Wilson (Program
Manager of the MSL). The Master of Ceremonies was Ross A. Lemons, Division
Director of the Materials Science and Technology Division at Los Alamos.
After the ribbon cutting (shown above), a poster session and tour were held
in the MSL, giving the public a chance to see some of the exciting research
activities going on in the new facility.
