Equipment and Methods Used at the Single Crystal Growth Laboratory

The laboratory has equipment suitable for growth of single crystals using the floating zone, Czochralski and Bridgman methods. Specialized units include two optical float-zone units, two RF-heated Czochralski units and one Tri-arc unit for Czochralski-type growth. There are also three zone furnaces suitable for Bridgman growth. In addition, there is ancillary equipment for sample preparation, such as an arc melter, a cold isostatic press and various furnaces and ovens.
