Santa Fe, New Mexico

May 31 - June 5, 2009

Tours

Wednesday afternoon, June 3, of the conference will be free time for all participants and guests, and dedicated to a tour of Los Alamos and surrounding attractions. The tour will be arranged by Buffalo Tours. The cost for the tour is $46, which is not included in the registration fee.

Georgia Strickfaden of Buffalo Tours will be present at the conference registration/ reception desk at the La Fonda hotel. The Buffalo Tours "desk" will be staffed during registration on Sunday evening, all day on Monday, on Tuesday, and on Wednesday morning, in order to take reservations and payment for companion tours and for the Wednesday afternoon tour.

Payment can be made by Visa/Master Card, cash, or check in US Currency. Participants may also make reservations for conference tours via e-mail and pay at registration. Advance tour reservations are much appreciated for best possible service and availability.

Buses will leave the La Fonda hotel at 13:30 and return about 19:00. Each bus will have a Buffalo Tours Los Alamos guide/escort aboard to discuss the cultural history of the area during the 45-minute travel time to Los Alamos. In Los Alamos, buses will stop at the Bradbury Science Museum and the Fuller Lodge area for guided walks through the Ashley Pond/Fuller Lodge/Bathtub Row Historic district, with time to visit the award-winning Los Alamos Historical Museum and the Bradbury Science Museum. Of course, we'll point out Oppenheimer Place where famous scientists live (such as Art Cox)! As we depart Los Alamos, depending on security restrictions, we will drive by Los Alamos National Laboratory between guard portals and view the newly designated Senator Pete Domenici Science Complex at the main Technical Area 3.

The tour will conclude with a teatime social (beer and wine available) and light buffet refreshments at the Hilltop House La Vista restaurant in Los Alamos. The buses will then return to the La Fonda Hotel.

Additional Companion Tours

Buffalo Tours will be offering additional tours during the week to local attractions for companions.

Closed for 9 years, Puye Cliff Dwellings just opened again to the public.  Over 500 years ago, ancestors of today’s Pueblo people lived on mesa tops and cliffs of the Pajarito Plateau.  Visitors may now climb ladders and walk into hand-hewn caves of this archaeological site.  Returning to the Rio Grande Valley, visit living Indian Pueblos, as well as centuries-old Spanish villages.  This is the heart of the early European settlement of New Mexico.
