This Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (SIMS) is the only one of its kind in the DOE complex.

This Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (SIMS) is the only one of its kind in the DOE complex.

We can measure very low concentrations of radionuclides and have some of the most advanced facilities world-wide for environmental level isotope ratio measurements

World Class Mass Spectrometry Capabilities

Low-level actinide isotopic analysis is a mature capability of C-NR that benefits from a variety of analytical platforms that include multicollector thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), single and multicollector sector field inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), quadrupole ICP-MS, and large geometry secondary ion mass spectrometry (LG-SIMS). In cooperation with the LANL Earth System Observations (EES-14) group, C-NR helps lead cutting edge work in the field of stable isotope geochemistry. Low-level actinide analysis capabilities are supported by 10,000 ft2 clean laboratory facility equipped with Class 100 hoods (including HClO4 capable hoods) to provide the greatest degree of flexibility for clean sample preparation.
