“Dr McMillan was always approachable and sought ways to bridge the lines of communication between the Lab and region as a whole.”- Mayor Alice Lucero

Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Charlie McMillan retires at the end of December, and as his time in office draws to a close, Northern New Mexico community leaders have been sharing their views on his impact on the region.

”I want to thank Dr. McMillan for his years of committed, dedicated leadership in support of the national security mission and world class scientific work that is performed at LANL.”
Ben Ray Luján, U.S. Member of Congress

“Dr. McMillan was always approachable and sought ways to bridge the lines of communication between the Lab and region as a whole. Among many examples, McMillan was the first Laboratory Director to attend an Española City Council meeting, demonstrating his dedicated leadership not only as an advocate of the Laboratory but also as a collaborator with surrounding communities.”
Alice Lucero, Mayor, City of Española

“Dr. McMillan made the time to build relationships with Rio Arriba County and the Regional Coalition of LANL Communities. His personable and collaborative nature encouraged our communities to stay engaged and have a strong voice in Laboratory activities.”
Barney Trujillo, Rio Arriba Commissioner and Vice-Chair of the Regional Coalition of LANL Communities

“It has been my honor to work collaboratively with Dr. McMillan as the County Commissioner of Santa Fe County District 1 and also as an employee of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Integrity, ethics, intelligence and leadership are only a few words that come to mind when thinking about Charlie. The wealth of knowledge, inspiration and leadership that he has provided during his tenure will remain as the path and guidance for the staff. It will be a huge void for someone to fill and the Laboratory is a better place because of his leadership.”
Henry P. Roybal, Santa Fe County Commissioner District 1

”Dr. McMillan served DOE and Northern New Mexico communities with commitment and responsibility. He understood the needs locally and remained committed. The pueblo of San Ildefonso thanks Dr. McMillan for his efforts and wish him and his family the very best in their future endeavors."
James Mountain, Governor, Pueblo of San Ildefonso
