July 9–14: ASM Materials Camp

An event for teachers to learn how to engage students using simple, low-cost experiments. Four CEUs, demonstration materials, lunches, and snacks are included. The event takes place at Manzano High School in Albuquerque.

July 11: Regional High-tech Roundtable

This event, held at the Violet Crown in Santa Fe, is sponsored by the Richard P. Feynman Center for Innovation, Santa Fe Economic Development Department, Regional Development Corporation, and the New Mexico Technology Council.

July 11: History Adventures

Hands-on history activities for students in grades K–3 at 10 and 11 a.m. at the Los Alamos History Museum.

July 11, 18, 25: TED Talk Tuesday

Every Tuesday at noon, bring your lunch to projectY, watch a TED talk, and discuss. See each week’s topic here.

July 13: Ranch School Nights

Part of ScienceFest, each adult-only $50 ticket includes dinner and a complimentary drink. The night will also feature music: guitar and campfire songs, a root beer float station, gourmet s’mores toasted on the campfir, and lawn games.

July 13: Youth Council Planning Session

Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council is looking to host another ENIPC Youth Council meeting to share information on a Youth Council conference. This planning session starts at 9 a.m. at ENIPC.

July 13–16: Los Alamos ScienceFest

Los Alamos’s signature event features live music and entertainment, STEM activities and demonstrations, historical tours and hikes, a beer garden, and more. Learn more here.

ScienceFest is a highlight of summer in Los Alamos.

July 18: Hour of Code

Bring your laptop, tablet, or smart phone and gather with others interested in exploring the world of coding and try an Hour of Code. This free event, hosted by New Mexico Tech Works, takes place at the Violet Crown Cinema in Santa Fe from 4:30–6 p.m.

July 20: Office hours with NM Economic Development Department

Community members can meet one-on-one with Ryan Eustice, Community Business & Rural Development Team Region 2 Representative for the State of New Mexico Economic Development Department, from 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at projectY. He can help business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs navigate available state resources, assess the likelihood of receiving state incentives for their business, and help with business advocacy (including state and local regulations).

July 20: Science on Tap

Sip local wine or beer, have a bite to eat, and listen to a Laboratory scientist. The talk starts at 5:30 p.m. at UnQuarked in Central Park Square in Los Alamos.

July 21: Deadline for LAESF

Last day to donate to the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund. Each year, through this scholarship fund, the LANL Foundation has the privilege of awarding scholarships to amazing students who have worked hard in and out of the classroom to become well-rounded individuals and members of their communities.

August 3: Student Symposium

Lab volunteers

Los Alamos National Laboratory’s participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) events is made possible with support from the Department of Energy through the Laboratory’s Science Education Community Service Time Program. To request STEM experts, complete a brief online request form.

Los Alamos experts and volunteers can also be requested through the Laboratory’s Volunteer Program, which partners with the national Volunteer Match initiative.

Speaker’s bureau

The Laboratory has speakers with experience in a wide variety of subjects who can tailor their content for a range of audiences. Call 505-667-7000 to be matched with the right person for your audience.
