December 1: Inauguration of Dr. Richard J. Bailey, Jr.
The Board of Regents of Northern New Mexico College inaugurates Bailey as the 21st president of the college at 11 a.m. at the Nick Salazar Center for the Arts in Española.
December 1: History on Tap
Join the Los Alamos History Museum for an engaging discussion about the new museum campus. The event takes place from 5:30–7 p.m. at UnQuarked in Los Alamos.
December 2–4: Winterfest Weekend

December 3: Nambé Holiday Bazaar
Nambé Pueblo Education Department hosts its fourth annual holiday shopping event at the Nambé Pueblo Wellness Center from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
December 3: Jingle Bell Run
This 5K run/walk benefits Girls on the Run Santa Fe. The race starts at 10 a.m. at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center.

This one-hour introduction to computer science is designed to demystify code to show that anyone can learn the basics.
December 6: High Tech Round Table
Presented by the Richard P. Feynman Center, the City of Santa Fe Economic Development, and the Regional Development Corporation, this event at the Violet Crown Cinema features technology leaders and an evening of networking, sharing accomplishments, and looking ahead to 2017.
December 7: Steps to Starting a Small Business
Decide if business ownership is right for you during this course that provides the foundation for attendees to move forward and work with an SBDC advisor on their individual projects.
December 10: Scientist in the Spotlight
How do you see something that’s smaller than a particle of light? Stop by the Bradbury Science Museum from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. to hear Noah Orfield, with the Lab's Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies, give you a sense of how tiny structures can be observed in the lab and what we’re learning about their properties.
December 14: Luminaria Walk and Buffet
Join Los Alamos Retirement Community for this annual holiday event from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at Aspen Ridge, and dessert will be served at Sombrillo. Call 505-695-8981 with questions.
December 15: Science on Tap—Unconventional Solar Power
In this talk, scientist Jeff Pietryga proposes that the cost of energy is at the heart of essentially all the world’s problems. Can we achieve a world where energy is (almost) free? The event takes place at Unquarked in Los Alamos from 5:30–7 p.m.
December 15: Under the Branches book launch
Storyteller Kimberly Gotches performs stories, including one from her debut book. This program, at 6 p.m. at ProjectY, is geared toward teens and adults.
December 19: Holiday gift drive ends

December 20: Get News Coverage for your Business
In this marketing workshop, you’ll learn how to get articles published online and in print to generate interest, sales, and leads for your business. The class takes place at ProjectY at 7 p.m.

The largest scholarship pool in Northern New Mexico, LAESF supports students from Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos counties pursuing higher education in all fields of study. Los Alamos National Laboratory’s participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) events is made possible with support from the Department of Energy through the Laboratory’s Science Education Community Service Time Program. To request STEM experts, complete a brief online request form.
Los Alamos experts and volunteers can also be requested through the Laboratory’s Volunteer Program, which partners with the national Volunteer Match initiative.
