November 1: Best Social Media Options for Small Businesses

Learn from an expert about how to take advantage of social media—and what message you should be sending to your potential customers. The event takes place at the Santa Fe Business Incubator from 5:30­–8:30 p.m.

November 2–3: Lean Startup Week Conference

ProjectY free livestreams the 2016 conference free of charge from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. The San Francisco-based conference brings together more than 2,000 diverse thinkers from all over the world to share ideas and projects that are shaping the future of business.

November 5: A Million Thanks

The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation has given $1 million to the schools, teachers, and students of Los Alamos Public Schools. Celebrate this milestone from 7–9 p.m. at Fuller Lodge. 

November 5: Launch Los Alamos Teen Pitch Day

Students in the Launch Los Alamos program, run by the Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation, will compete for startup funding as they showcase their new products/services and pitch their ideas in front of the Los Alamos community and a panel of judges. The event takes place at ProjectY at 11 a.m.

November 5: Northern New Mexico College Foundation Gala

The 21st annual event takes place at the Ohkay Convention Center from 6–9 p.m.

November 8: Let’s Put Santa Fe Businesses on the Map

The SBDC teams up with Google to host this free workshop to help small business owners get online and on the map. The event takes place at SBDC from 9–11 a.m.

In this marketing workshop at 7 p.m. at ProjectY, Mandy Marksteiner offers tips on how to stand out from your competitors so that customers choose you.

Meet at the Lab’s Wellness Center for a 12 p.m. Veterans Day Fun Run/Walk.

November 9: Veterans Day Fun Run/Walk

Gather at the Lab’s Wellness Center for a run to support our veterans. Registration is at 11 a.m., and event starts at noon. Finishers receive a T-shirt, while supplies last.

November 12: Scientist in the Spotlight

Scientist Jane Clements discusses what might be living in your water, and engineer Isaac Salazar talks about how experimental variables can be used to improve science. These talks take place at the Bradbury Science Museum from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

November 14: Rio Arriba County Excellence in Teaching Award deadline

Nominate a teacher for this new award, which honors teachers and supports the education profession in Rio Arriba County. Winners will be announced before the end-of-year break.

November 15: Taos Entrepreneurial Network monthly meeting

Entrepreneurs gather from 5:30–8 p.m. at the Old Country Courthouse in Taos Plaza for a cocktail hour and a presentation by local and keynote speakers.

November 16: Taos & Enchanted Circle Business Expo & Job Fair

From 11 a.m.–3 p.m., Taos County Chamber of Commerce member businesses and nonprofits will showcase their products and services for other businesses and the public at the Sagebrush Conference Center.

Sip local wine or beer, have a bite eat, and listen as Barry Charles, of the Lab’s Global Security organization, recreates his TED talk: “Creativity Under Pressure, or Why Disarming a Terrorist Nuke is Like Defending Against Aliens in Space.” The talk takes place from 5:30–7 p.m. at UnQuarked in Central Park Square, Los Alamos.

November 20: PEEC event

Join the PEEC board, staff, and fellow supporters for a gathering to nurture our connection to nature and to each other. Meet at the Nature Center from 4:30–6:30 p.m.

The largest scholarship pool in Northern New Mexico, LAESF supports students from Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos counties pursuing higher education in all fields of study. Los Alamos National Laboratory’s participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) events is made possible with support from the Department of Energy through the Laboratory’s Science Education Community Service Time Program. To request STEM experts, complete a brief online request form.

Los Alamos experts and volunteers can also be requested through the Laboratory’s Volunteer Program, which partners with the national Volunteer Match initiative.
