GRANT WRITING TIP
Don’t use the words “could” or “would.” Always use “will” and “can”—you’ll sound more confident that you will get the money and that you will follow through on your project.
Don’t use jargon unless you know that everyone reading your grant is in your field and will understand what you’re saying. This goes for acronyms, too—make sure you spell them out on first reference.
PERSONAL MESSAGE
Twelve percent of the current Laboratory workforce—1,600 people—are postdocs or students, many of who will be presenting research at the 16th annual Student Symposium on Wednesday, August 3. “Celebrating Student Achievement” is the theme of this year’s event, which provides a unique opportunity for students to share their work at Los Alamos not only with colleagues but also with the public.
