Penny Bridge — recommended for grades K-3

Can you design a bridge using a single piece of copy paper that is strong enough to hold fifty pennies?
Materials: Two "supports" of the same height (cups and books work well), several sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper, a ruler and fifty pennies. Check out our video here.

Card Tower — recommended for grades 4-6

Have you ever tried to build a tower out of nothing but note cards?
Materials: Fifty 3 x 5 note cards, a ruler and household items of varying weights like a plastic cup, small stuffed animal, water bottle, can of soup, etc. Watch this video for clues to completing this challenge!

Catapult — recommended for grades 7-12

Can you engineer a functional catapult?
Materials: Craft or popsicles sticks (4.5 x 3/8), a ruler or measuring tape, rubber bands, a plastic spoon and ammo of your choice — try a variety! Learn more in this video.
