Science on Tap – Space weather

Space is not a dark, cold void as many people think. Instead, it churns with energy—in the form of accelerated particles—that come to us through the sun’s activity. The resulting sunspots and solar storms can disrupt communications, compromise power grids and, even influence a particular days’ weather on Earth. Join us and Geoff Reeves, with the Lab’s Space Science & Applications group, as he talks about his research on just how space weather impacts our planet and the discoveries still to be made.

Science on Tap is a convivial opportunity to engage with Lab scientists on their current projects. A brief presentation is followed by lively questions, answers, and discussion. The fun takes place on the third Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the UnQuarked Wine Room at 145 Central Park Plaza in Los Alamos.

The sessions are a joint project between the Bradbury Science Museum and the Los Alamos Creative District.
