Join us on Saturday, April 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. when Mandie Gehring, with the Lab’s Neutron Science & Technology Group, will shed light on how fission works. Demos will help you better understand the physics of chain reactions using simple and accessible materials.
Everyone knows that a thrown object traces an arc, but only people who remember their middle-school algebra remember that a thrown object actually traces not an arc but a parabola. Jeff Favorite, a nuclear engineer at the Lab, demonstrates many different parabolas while juggling with his friend Lynn Wysocki Smith. Algebra and juggling are both fun!
Join us every second Saturday of the month for Scientist in the Spotlight, a program featuring scientists that have been certified for public outreach through the museum’s Scientist Ambassador Academy. These scientists will talk with museum visitors for a couple of hours about their favorite science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) subject.
