Capturing an eggs-plosion on camera: From eggs to weapon mockups, what can you learn from photographing explosions?
On Saturday, March 12, Barry Warthen, a Los Alamos National Laboratory researcher, will be at the Museum with his travelling “Explodatorium” to talk to people about how we can use flash photography and flash radiography to learn about dynamic experiments.
Magnetic fields: Why do magnets stick to some things and not others?
On the same day and at the same time, Chuck Mielke, director of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory-Pulsed Field Facility, will show how magnets can behave in interesting ways. Activities will include playing with superconductors (and liquid nitrogen) and magnets. What could be more “attractive”? Come by with the family for some magnetic-field fun.
Join us every second Saturday of the month for Scientist in the Spotlight, a program featuring scientists that have been certified for public outreach through the museum’s Scientist Ambassador Academy. These scientists will talk with Museum visitors for a couple of hours about their favorite science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) subject.
