Event Description

A conversation with Bin Hu about the latest innovations environmental microbiome research at Los Alamos.

Microbiome is the collection of microorganisms in a particular environment and is also used to refer to the combined genetic materials of the microorganisms found in a particular environment. The National Microbiome Data Collaborative (https://microbiomedata.org) is founded by DOE Office of Science to support the long-term advancement of microbiome science. Its scientific mission is to provide comprehensive access to multidisciplinary microbiome data and an initial suite of open-source bioinformatic tools for reproducible, cross-study advanced analyses. As one of the four DOE national laboratories participating NMDC, the LANL bioinformatics team is tasked with developing some of the software tools and workflows. This public talk will introduce the importance of environmental microbiome research and some computational challenges.
