Event Description

Nature owes some of its bright colors (think iridescent peacock feathers) to thin films

In addition to other Lab representatives at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) for Earth Day, come by the Bradbury Science Museum’s table for a hands-on activity related to thin films. Bird feathers, butterfly wings, shells and some beetle exoskeletons have nano-sized, semi-transparent layers that create an iridescent effect when they reflect light. Create a colorful thin film to take home!
