$2.6M raised in Los Alamos’ Holiday Giving Campaign
Donations support nonprofits, students, children in need across Northern New Mexico
December 19, 2024
Lab employees gave with their hearts during the 2024 Holiday Giving Campaign.
The Laboratory combined several of its holiday drives and campaigns into one seasonal push. Employees had several choices of how to get involved: they could donate to nonprofits or scholarships, support a toy drive, or sign up for volunteer opportunities.
“The generosity of our employees is at the core of what makes Los Alamos National Laboratory a force for good across Northern New Mexico,” said Lab Director Thom Mason. “Through the Laboratory’s annual Holiday Giving Campaign, our staff are supporting nonprofits, helping students, and bringing happiness to children in need this holiday season.”
Holiday giving by the numbers
Across the Lab, donations and gifts from all employees included:
- $2.2 million to nonprofits through the Employee Giving Campaign
- $376,000 to the Los Alamos Employees Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for students from Northern New Mexico
- $30,157 and more than 2,693 toys for the Toy Drive, with 136 employees volunteering to serve as champions, or sort and deliver gifts.
Supporting 50 organizations with toys
The monetary contributions to the Toy Drive will be used to purchase toys which, together with the donated toys, will be given to 50 agencies and organizations that work with children and teens who need some extra support, including:
- Barrios Unidos
- Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region
- Boys and Girls Club - Pojoaque
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Fe/Del Norte
- Casa Familia
- Eastern Navajo Nation (Torreon/Cuba)
- Española Teen Center (YMCA)
- Family Strengths Network Grandparents Group
- Gerard's House
- Jemez Pueblo
- Las Cumbres - Family Infant Toddler program
- Santa Fe Indigenous Center
- Santo Domingo Social Services
The Laboratory partnered with nonprofit the Northern New Mexico Toy Drive (established by Los Alamos-based EXIT Realty Advantage NM) to purchase and distribute the gifts.
Triad match
Laboratory operator Triad will match a portion of each employee’s giving through the Lab’s Giving Tool to charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in the seven counties in which the majority of Laboratory employees reside (Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, Taos, San Miguel, Mora and Sandoval), and in Eddy County, where LANL also has a presence. The match provides additional much-needed support to the nonprofits in our region.
