A newly installed timeline of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s history is now on view at the Laboratory’s Bradbury Science Museum. Spanning the length of two walls in the museum’s Research Gallery, the milestone-marking timeline was produced with the Lab’s National Security Research Center (NSRC).

“The timeline begins in 1938 with the discovery of fission and covers the history of the Lab within the context of major world events up through the present day,” explains NSRC historian Madeline Whitacre.

The Bradbury’s timeline is based on an initial version created by the NSRC for its facilities, which cannot be viewed by the public due to its location in a secure facility at the Laboratory.

“Sharing our history provides insight into the breadth of work we do as a Laboratory and shows how we grew from our Manhattan Project beginnings into the multidisciplinary institution we are today,” says Whitacre.

The Bradbury Science Museum is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Admission is always free.
