Scenes from historical society’s Bradbury anniversary celebration

The Los Alamos Historical Society recently fêted the Bradbury Science Museum in honor of its 60th anniversary. The gathering was a smashing success. A large crowd of locals, friends and history buffs turned out for the event at Fuller Loges, hosted by the historical society’s executive director, Todd Nickols, and event maven Kristen Hollis. The crowd of attendees celebrated the museum by singing “Happy Birthday,” and enjoyed cake ceremoniously cut by the Bradbury’s director, Linda Deck, and operations manager Jen Olsen.

If the sugar high wasn’t enough to hike the crowd’s spirits, beloved local musician Jan McDonald (“Mr. Mac”) played trumpet with Albuquerque’s jazzy Bert Dalton trio. Mr. Mac is one of the founders of the Los Alamos Big Band and Black Mesa Jazz Quintet and served as director of the Los Alamos High School band for 30 years. Olsen fondly recalls being one of the local students who performed in “Mr. Mac’s Magic Band,” the nickname for the school band. She played the flute.
