On July 8, check out Discovery Day at Ashley Pond and the Fuller Lodge lawn, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Enjoy STEM activities at booths featuring Labbies and organizations from throughout the community. Be on the lookout for the Bradbury education team’s solar energy station. Kids can build “solar bugs” and generate their own electricity! Then, visit with our friends at the Manhattan Project National Historical Park to learn about the park’s LANL sites, try “The Secret City: Project Y” app and put together a Lego figure of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
A Discovery Day to-do list “must” is a visit to the Bradbury’s Challenge Tomorrow trailers. Explore this fun, interactive STEM experience with the Challenge Tomorrow Ambassadors, Labbies who will answer your questions about the inspiring and exciting work happening at the Lab. You’ll find Challenge Tomorrow in the Ashley Pond parking lot.
On July 15, the young at heart get to have lively times of their own at the Play Crawl: STEAM for Adults, at Central Park Square, 6-8 p.m. The Bradbury’s educators will be at the Play Crawl with fun, hands-on activities.
Festivalgoers will have a full day of tech on July 17. At Fuller Lodge, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., it’s the Los Alamos National Laboratory Showcase and Demo Day, featuring a keynote speech by Laboratory Director Thom Mason. The event will feature several discussions about biotech, aerospace, clean energy and startups.
Then, head over to projectY cowork for the Bradbury’s monthly Periodic Table program, 5:30-7 p.m. Special guest scientist Tommy Rockward will discuss powering the future with fuel cells.
