LANL Research Library seeks a future-focused and collaborative professional to act as Section Leader for Research Services & Resource Discovery. Reporting to the Science Resource Office (SRO) under the Science, Technology & Engineering (STE) directorate, the Research Library is a strategic asset to the LANL community, advancing scientific discovery, scholarly publishing, and lifelong learning in support of the Lab’s mission.

A newly created position, the Section Leader plays a leading role in strategic decisions related to library services. The incumbent serves as part of LANL Research Library senior management team and participates in discussions that impact all areas of the Library. The successful candidate will directly lead two teams, currently named Reference & Research Support and Library Collections, Metadata & Discovery, in charge of developing and delivering services integral to the Research Library's role. S/he will also have the opportunity to reinvent and reimagine services to a geographically dispersed and multidisciplinary scientific community service from a data-driven, Web-based, and user-centered perspective.

Core Responsibilities

  • Supervise , develop,and mentor personnel

  • Lead strategic initiatives related to service and Web interface design, print collection management and digital access, outreach, reference and research support

  • Build relationships with stakeholders across the LANL community in order to continuously develop and refine the framework for delivery of resource discovery services and research support

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, standards, and practices in library technical, research, and access services

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

  • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent)

  • Minimum five years of increasingly responsible, relevant professional experience in a research library, with particular expertise in the design, evaluation and delivery of user-centered research services

  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, inspire innovation, build collaboration, delegate responsibilities appropriately, and develop staff

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in scholarly research and communications, library information technologies, and discovery systems

  • Strong interpersonal and public communication skills, including the ability to serve as an advocate and spokesperson

  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance

Additional Job Requirements for Program Manager 3:

  • In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Program Manager III level requires:

  • Minimum ten years of increasingly responsible, relevant professional experience in a research library, with particular expertise in the design, evaluation and delivery of user-centered research services

  • Strong publication and presentation record, as well as an ongoing record of professional engagement

Desired Skills

  • Experience and/or educational background in a STEM-related discipline

  • Familiarity with DOE/NNSA Laboratories research and development mission areas

  • Demonstrated experience developing services related to research impact, altmetrics, bibliometrics via training, instruction, or consultation

Education Required (Program Manager 2/3):

MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent).
