Shaping the future of the Earth’s subsurface

We develop and apply cutting-edge computational methods to Earth science projects supporting energy security.

Our vision is to be an inclusive world-leader in subsurface flow and transport, utilizing modern technologies and innovative numerical methods to advance fundamental scientific discovery and impact real-world applications. We work to understand and control subsurface systems for energy, global security, and decarbonization of the US economy; contribute to nuclear nonproliferation; and safeguard our planet.

What We Do

Team capabilities include subsurface flow and reactive transport simulation, discrete fracture network modeling, inverse modeling, optimization, uncertainty quantification, risk analysis and machine learning. We employ techniques such as high-performance computing, multi-scale modeling and quantum computing. Our expertise contributes to areas like geologic carbon dioxide and hydrogen storage, geothermal energy, and nuclear waste disposal, among others.
