August 15, 22: Public meetings on legacy waste cleanup at Los Alamos
The U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) and its contractor N3B are hosting public meetings on the legacy cleanup mission at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Taos and Santa Fe (having recently held similar forums in Los Alamos and Española).

August 16, 18: Civil War Walking Tour
Take a ranger-led walking tour at Pecos National Historic Park to gain an insight into the Battle of Glorieta Pass and its role in the Civil War. The tour is free and takes around 90 minutes, on a groomed trail with minimal elevation change.

August 18: Joy Harjo Reading
The IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) and Collected Works Bookstore are co-presenting a reading and performance at MoCNA  in Santa Fe by Joy Harjo (Muscogee Creek Nation), the first Native American to be appointed United States Poet Laureate.  

August 19: Science on Tap
If you want to know what’s happening on Mars, then head to ProjectY Cowork in Los Alamos. Join Lab researcher Lisa Danielson, manager of the all-female, ChemCam Engineering Operations team as she discusses her team’s working directing the ChemCam laser on the Curiosity Rover.

August 23: Robotics Night
The Bradbury Science Museum in Los Alamos goes robot crazy for an evening, with over a dozen live demonstrations from robotics teams, as well as presentations and the chance to see robots used by the Laboratory, the Los Alamos County Police Department, and UNM-Los Alamos. 

Aug 23, 24: Free movie and concert in Railyard Park
Bring your picnic and a blanket to the Railyard Park in Santa Fe to catch movies and concerts in the free series celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Nature Conservancy in New Mexico. August 23 sees a showing of Incredibles 2, while on August 24 singer-songwriter Valerie June comes to town.

August 25: A Taste of Knowledge
Pig + Fig Café in White Rock hosts the signature fundraising event for the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation. Enjoy either an afternoon or an evening transported to France for delicious food and wine offerings, all in a good cause.

August 30: STEM Challenge Registration Deadline
Schools that wish to participate in the first ever NM STEM Challenge must pick 10 students and two teacher mentors by the registration deadline of Aug. 30.

August 31: Glam Trash Fashion Show
The Glam Trash Fashion Show is an annual recycled wearable art contest performed live on the Taos Plaza, featuring live music, recycled fashion and lots of fun.
