As tradition holds for most, we at the Los Alamos National Laboratory Community Programs Office are also making our resolutions as we begin the New Year.  We remain committed to ensuring that the Laboratory is a good neighbor in Northern New Mexico and resolve this year to strengthen our partnerships.
“Partnership” may seem like a much overused buzzword, but to us it means cooperating with other entities to advance mutual interests.  We already have valued partnerships with organizations like the United Way of Northern New Mexico, United Way of Santa Fe County, the Regional Development Corporation, regional colleges and universities,  and 59 organizations who deliver programs to teach elementary school students about math and science.  By working with these partners we increase the likelihood of achieving our mission to support communities in the areas of education, economic development and community giving.  There is much work to be done in each of these areas and it will take many organizations working toward the same goal to bring about the results we all want to see.
You may have read in the headlines that the United States Department of Energy has announced its intention to put the Laboratories management contract out for bid in the coming years.   We want to reassure you that the Laboratory remains committed to continuing the work we have started with communities and expanding our partnerships as well.
