With the selection of Kurt Steinhaus as the new Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent, I want to take this opportunity to thank Kurt for all he’s done during his tenure at the Laboratory and wish him the best.

The Lab has begun the selection process for a new Community Programs Director, and I can assure you that the Laboratory remains steadfast in its commitment to our friends, partners and neighbors in northern New Mexico.

Our investments in education, economic development and community giving have achieved important, measurable results, and the Board of Governors of the Lab’s operating company—Los Alamos National Security (LANS), LLC—has consistently and unanimously voted to maintain those commitments.

We have made progress in key strategic areas:

  • Our Math and Science Academy has helped raise student test scores at participating schools, and our work through the LANL Foundation is advancing regional STEM education;
  • Through the Regional Development Corporation, we continue to invest in economic development programs throughout northern New Mexico in partnership with local governments and business interests; and
  • The generosity of our employees continues to grow.  Employees have made record-setting contributions to nonprofit organizations, including United Way of Northern New Mexico and United Way of Santa Fe County, as well as the Los Alamos Employee Scholarship Fund, and their generosity has been further enhanced through LANS matches. We continue to see increases in volunteer hours to causes across the region.

Despite our successes, much remains to be done, and I’m confident that with your active support and involvement, we will continue to shape a bright future for the Lab and region.
