It is a pleasure to be here in Los Alamos. I’ve been on the job for about a month. So far, my transition has been a smooth and positive experience.
This is my second stint in New Mexico. Prior to my most recent position as Field Office Manager at the Livermore Field Office in California, I had served as deputy manager and acting manager for the Sandia Field Office in Albuquerque. I believe the leadership experience from the two positions will be valuable as I lead the DOE/National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office team.
As you may know, the Field Office is responsible for overseeing the contract awarded to Los Alamos National Security, LLC for management and operation of Los Alamos National Laboratory. The LANL annual budget for Fiscal Year 2014 is $2.067 billion. This is a responsibility that we take very seriously as we enable the Lab to accomplish the nation’s nuclear security mission and world-renowned science and technology research.
In addition to overseeing the nuclear security piece of the LANL contract, I work closely with the Department of Energy’s Environmental Management Office on cleanup of LANL. I have a background in environmental work and look forward to working with our environmental operations managers and with stakeholders on meeting important milestones regarding cleanup.
This is clearly an exciting opportunity for me and over time I hope to meet all of you in one forum or another as we work to make LANL as successful as possible.
