In honor of the Lab’s 70th anniversary, there is now a free app that people can use to learn about the its national security mission, cutting-edge research, unique history and meet some of its scientists. It is available through iTunes for iPhones and iPads.

The app also provides easy access to news, feature stories, publications, social media and videos; an interactive timeline of 70 years of innovation and a look ahead to the future; and an educational feature showcasing the actinide series of the periodic table, as well as fun facts and links to the complete table. A version of the app for the Android platform is expected soon.

“We’re excited to be a part of the 70th anniversary of Los Alamos’ service to the nation,” said Associate Director for Information Technology Carolyn Zerkle. “We hope employees and the public will download our app and use the new 70th anniversary website as a resource not only to learn about the Lab’s distinguished history but to join us in celebrating 70 years of creating tomorrow.”

The new app is just one of numerous activities planned this year by the Laboratory to mark Los Alamos’ 70th anniversary. Activities under way include a public lecture series at the Laboratory’s Bradbury Science Museum and the 70th anniversary webpage, which includes a “Faces of Science” section, research highlights, videos and historic photos and a pull-down menu of scheduled events open to employees and the public. The website will be updated as new 70th anniversary activities are announced.
