LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico, September 19, 2011—Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Bradbury Science Museum is participating for the third year in the seventh Smithsonian magazine’s Museum Day on Saturday, September 24. Sponsored by Smithsonian Media, Museum Day is a day when participating museums and cultural institutions across the nation open their doors free of charge to anyone presenting a Smithsonian magazine Museum Day ticket.

Museum Day also coincides with Los Alamos County’s “See You in September” campaign in support of Cultural Heritage Month.

“The Bradbury Science Museum already has a free-admission policy, but we’re participating to help raise awareness of the vital role museums play in celebrating culture, learning, and the dissemination of knowledge,” said Bradbury Science Museum Director Linda Deck. “We’re excited to again have the Bradbury represent local New Mexico museums in this nationwide event.”

Last year, more than 1,500 venues participated in Museum Day. Attendees will need to download Smithsonian magazine’s Museum Day admission card at to gain free entry to participating institutions. Each card provides museum access for two people, and only one admission card per household is permitted. A ticket will gain entry in only one museum and only in participating museums. The website also provides listings and links to other participating museums nationwide.

Deck said museum patrons and visitors are encouraged to bring the Smithsonian Museum card to the Bradbury Science Museum. These are returned to Museum Day organizers, who track attendance tied to the event.

The Bradbury Science Museum features films and interactive exhibits interpreting LANL’s contributions to modern science, research, and technology, including its role in the Manhattan Project and current mission in national security.

The Bradbury is open daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Photos are allowed. The museum is located at 15th Street and Central Avenue in downtown Los Alamos.
