Las Conchas Challenge Grant Fund checks awarded

LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico, August 23, 2011—Los Alamos National Laboratory Director and Los Alamos National Security, LLC President Charlie McMillan will present checks totaling $57,934 to businesses from Los Alamos, Española, and Santa Fe that provided goods and services during the Las Conchas Fire at the “Los Alamos Says Thanks” community event Thursday (August 25) at Ashley Pond in downtown Los Alamos.
The Las Conchas Challenge Grant Fund was established last month at Los Alamos National Bank with $50,000 of seed money from Los Alamos National Security, LLC, which manages and operates the Laboratory for the National Nuclear Security Administration.
Representatives from these organizations will receive checks:
- Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Services, Inc.
- Española Valley Humane Society
- Los Alamos Fitness Center
- De Colores Restaurant
- Los Alamos Co-Op Market
- Smith’s Food and Drug
- Santa Fe Animal Shelter
- Braemarr Kennels, Santa Fe
- Blue Window Bistro
- Hill Diner
- Los Alamos Sheriff’s Posse Lodge.
“I saw firsthand how many of these businesses so willingly helped our first responders,” said McMillan. “During a difficult time for our community, everyone stepped up, and LANS and Los Alamos National Laboratory again want to thank these businesses for the goods and services they provided.”
“Los Alamos National Bank was honored to manage this fund and is grateful to the many, many small businesses and individuals who came together during the Las Conchas Fire,” said LANB Chief Executive Officer Bill Enloe. “Helping our small businesses survive and succeed is essential to the future of Los Alamos and our neighboring communities.”
“Los Alamos Says Thanks” is from 4 to 6 p.m. and sponsored by the Laboratory, National Nuclear Security Administration, and the Los Alamos County Council.
