Strategic Weapons in the 21st Century
Strategic Weapons in the 21st Century (SW21) sixth annual conference, co-hosted by Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, will be held on January 26, 2012, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington DC.
The SW21 Conference provides a forum for senior government officials and academicians to engage in an ongoing, in-depth dialog on topics related to the roles of strategic weapons in national and international security with special attention to the interface between technology and policy. The focus of the dialog is on seeking clarity rather than consensus, highlighting what we know, what we do not know, and what we need to find out.
Perspectives on Deterrence
The 2012 Conference will offer national and international perspectives on the deterrence policies and postures of the United States and the other nuclear weapon states in a complex, changing, and fiscally challenged world.
One session will be devoted to interactions among the Principal Five Members (P5) of the United Nations Security Council, focusing on prospects for enhancing security and stability through international technological cooperation and other means.
Keynote speakers will include General C. Robert “Bob” Kehler, Commander, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and other national defense leaders.
