Event Description

Structural biology is entering an exciting new phase. We are witnessing over 10,000 new structures per year.

Powerful new cryo-EM and X-ray laser approaches promise to vastly improve the ease of structure determination for large molecules and complexes and to provide a time-resolved view of molecular machines at work. Using these tools and combining them with functional assays, we are making ever more rapid progress in understanding key biological processes and how they can be manipulated. This symposium will bring together students and senior investigators developing new methods for structural analysis, determining new structures, and using structures to understand biology. The symposium will encourage and facilitate discussion and interactions between junior and senior scientists.  We anticipate 40 oral and 100 poster presentations; the latter is a key component of the symposium.
