Event Description

Numerous teams of students from Northern New Mexico area schools are testing their critical thinking and teamwork skills to build autonomous robots at RoboRAVE Rally Northern New Mexico.

Additionally, Explora Museum, simultaneously will be hosting the Northern New Mexico Science Showdown, which provides several hands-on science activities for students of all ages.

The Laboratory, Los Alamos National Security, LLC and a number of other partners support RoboRave Rally Northern New Mexico and the Northern New Mexico Science Showdown. Participation in and sponsorship of these science competitions also is part of LANS' Community Commitment Plan education outreach pillar.

In RoboRAVE, students from grades 3 and above work in two-to-four person teams. Teams from schools in Rio Arriba, Taos, Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Sandoval counties are scheduled to participate. These teams also will participate in the RoboRAVE International competition May 5-7 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Students participating in Science Showdown can learn about voltage and electrical current and resistance and the wonder of batteries and how they power many applications.
