LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Sept. 12, 2002 -- The public is invited to learn about recent environmental stewardship activities at the U.S. Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory during a meeting Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the Betty Ehart Senior Center in downtown Los Alamos.

The Laboratory's Risk Reduction and Environmental Stewardship Remediation Program is hosting its fourth quarterly meeting for 2002, which is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Great Room of the senior center. Refreshments will be served.

Meeting attendees can hear presentations about the cleanup of the wastewater lagoons at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center, "non-traditional in-situ vitrification" — technology that can stabilize contamination in place — and the ecological risk assessment approach to environmental restoration. Members of the public will be provided with ample opportunity to ask questions or supply comments about the presented topics or about other environmental stewardship topics.
